FUNCTION OF THE JOB:
Tutor and mentor children in local schools and community sites in the subjects of math and/or reading.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
~Tutor and mentor children and youth in schools and community sites
~Tutor children in after-school programs
~Help with youth volunteer programs to provide service-learning opportunities to give back to the communities
~Work individually or as a team in planning and implementing community projects
~Work with community-based organizations to expand services to the community
~Participate in a variety of community service projects and activities identified by the program
~Attend required meetings and training, including orientation, in-service, and reflection retreats
~Adhere to the spirit of the AmeriCorps ethic of service and follow the guidelines set down by the program
~Maintain a commitment to service throughout the service term
~Maintain program confidentiality
~Maintain open working relationships and good communication with program, supervisor and others
~Maintain required paperwork, submitted on time
~Other duties as reasonably assigned by AmeriCorpss staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
~Must display professionalism and confidentiality in all matters
~Must be committed to working with children, youth and families
~Must be able to communicate by telephone on a daily basis.
~Must be able to use computers.
~Must be able to operate basic office equipment.
~Must be able to provide and understand verbal/visual orders from supervisors.

PERSONAL INTERACTION:
Daily contact with College personnel, faculty, students, and the general public in the routine performance of duties and departmental services.

None

REQUIREMENTS:
Federal Work-Study provides part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to the student’s course of study. Students participating in the Federal Work Study Program are paid minimum wage and can work up to 20 hours per week. The student is not guaranteed a set number of hours per week. In order to qualify for the Federal Work Study Program the student must:
~ be enrolled half-time (or greater) at the College (half-time is 6cr for fall/spring and 3cr for summer),
~ be enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program,
~ be in good academic standing; and ~ must have eligibility (financial need) as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Additionally, students applying for this position must meet the requirements of the ABC AmeriCorps’ Program.

Hiring Range $8.25/hr
